How it all began...

How it all began...
Roughly 2010 I began experiencing lower back pain, concentrated on the right side.  I saw Chiropractors and sought care at the Core Institute which included an MRI. Not much came of these images so my PCP treated the pain with the typical pain medications.  The pain continued as I dieted and lost 60 pounds, took care of my ailing mother who soon passed away, and married my current husband.  I just so happened to pick a name off Google for a close by Orthopedic Surgeon, who's name I will keep anonymous due to legality.  The day I saw this Physician I thought he was an absolute Godsend, this was the summer of 2011, it had been over a year of constant bone pain, becoming difficult to walk, and wearing me down physically and emotionally.  He immediately did an MRI and xray.  The radiologist at Simon Med read the MRI, the Orthopedic Dr did not agree with the findings based on the image and called him immediately to re-read the results.  The Dr explained what the images showed- Bertolotti's Syndrome.  Pseudo-articulation of the L5 Transverse Process into the Sacrum/Pelvis and Iliac Crest.  I finally had my answer and felt an instant sense of relief and trust in the Orthopedist.  He was a older Physician, close to 70, if I had my guess.  He explained what was happening and what needed to be done, but... he hadn't seen this rare condtion or done this surgery in 30 years.  Surgery was scheduled quickly, an excision of the transverse process (shaved the bone down).  It offered immediate relief.  I can remember it like yesterday!  Phil was working a contract job at Expedia, my good friend had just had her twins, so he dropped me off at her house the next day to sit in the chair, they helped take care of me and I helped hold the twins.  My point being, it was not a major surgery I suppose.  I got through it fine, went back to work in two weeks.  Instant relief!  Not one issue!  All was well!  Now...fast forward to 2013....
